Received the 12' laser-cut Telemaster kit about a week ago and all I can say is WOW! Very impressive kit in terms of quality and completeness. Part fit is excellent. While not a kit for first-time builders, the level of engineering and thoughtfulness in the design make construction a snap.

Hobby Lobby's customer service was excellent, and I received the kit in 3 days.

I just finished the build on the new 12 ft Laser cut Telemaster and thought I would share what I experienced.

The kit:
The kit was well packed. I was concerned that the parts would have separated from the original stock and I would have had several loose parts, this wasn’t the case, it was well packed and everything stayed in place. The parts separated without effort and I didn’t have to cut anything free they just popped off with slight pressure.

They suggest doing an inventory of all of the components of the kit then stage the sheets so they are easier to locate. I strongly recommend doing this! I found that I was missing some of the parts and by doing the inventory I was able to let them know what was missing. I staged the sheets in groups of 10 and had no problem locating anything. The parts that were missing were shipped the same day I called and I had them the next day along with a follow up call to see if everything else was ok.
The instruction had a few issues with the identification of a few parts and there were a couple of places that had duplicate instruction steps.

All of the hardware supplied is top of the line stuff! There was none of the cheap stuff that you would typically throw away and go out and buy something of quality.

The build:
Truly impressive! The parts assembled perfectly without the need to have to massage anything to fit. The wood is top quality as well. The kit is designed and cut in such a way that they engineer out many of the potential mistakes that can be made. You still have to take your time and follow the instruction as well as double check part orientation (even with the engineering help you can still make two lefts or two rights of something if you’re not careful)
They supply several tools and gauges that are a huge help. Usually when I start a build I have to make templates to ensure proper angles or shapes are followed. They supply laser cut gauges for you.
The one thing I would caution everyone on is when it comes time to laminate the fuselage sides with Gorilla glue is that that stuff foams like crazy! They tell you to go sparingly around the edges and they aren’t kidding. I would suggest testing this out on some scrap wood (you will have a ton of scrap wood from this kit) so that you can experiment with the proper amount to apply. I also recommend that prior to when you go to weight the assembly down for curing that you use “T” pins along with the dowel pins (my assembly shifted 1/8 of an inch down and forward due to the weight I applied causing a mess and required repositioning before the glue set) I placed 10 of them strategically around the assembly and then everything went fine.

The kit is truly impressive, from the engineering to the quality of the wood and hardware. The few issues that I had were minor and the customer service was excellent. If you’re new to building this kit would be a great project and experience. Definitely loaded with value and quality for the money.

I've been building kits for 35 years and I've never seen anything like this one. Laser cut parts are phenomenal. I have to finish my Sr Telemaster so I can start this one. This will be my best build by far, the kit is THAT GOOD!!
