Golden Age Classic, easy to build, transport and fly | |
50-3/4" wingspan, 38-1/2" long, 345 sq. in. wing area, 41-1/2 oz. flying weight (with 7.4 oz. battery). True to scale classic for those who love elegant design and gentle handling. All laser-cut balsa and ply construction accurately pre-assembled and pre-covered in genuine Oracover.
Has attractive scale details that make this handsome aircraft stand out at the flying field. Fiberglass engine cowl with chrome-look air intake grills, and fiberglass wheel pants. Aluminum landing gear with airfoil covering and plastic fairings that blend to the fuselage. Pre-built and covered wing struts. Wings slide onto carbon wing tube and are held in position by a screw tab.
Airplane can be built with either one or two elevator servos (2 elevator pushrods included) and uses pull-pull rudder control; each aileron has its own servo.
The clearly written photo-illustrated instruction manual shows each assembly step and offers valuable setup information for successful flying. Removing the bottom hatch (no tools required) easily accesses the battery. Flight times in excess of 15 minutes are easily possible. Requires a 4-channel radio system; we recommend a computer radio system with end point adjustments and the ability to have rudder-aileron mixing and differential aileron adjustments.
The 1/8 Scale Pilot-1 Stinson is also available in a Red & Cream color scheme.

Stinson 108 "Voyager"
Introduction and History The Stinson 108 "Voyager" was a popular general aviation aircraft produced by the Stinson division of the American airplane company Consolidated Vultee, from immediately after World War II to 1950. It was developed from the prewar Model 10A Voyager. Stinson was bought by Piper Aircraft and production continued for a few years at a slow rate under the new owner.
The fuselage was of fabric-covered steel tube. Aftermarket modifiers have obtained supplemental type certificates (STC) allowing conversion to an aluminum covering. Many different engines have been installed in the 108 by STC such as the Lycoming O-360, Franklin 220, and Continental O-470.
One distinctive feature was the partial leading edge slot installed on the wings and aligned with the ailerons on the trailing edge, ensuring that the portion of the wing containing the aileron remains unstalled at higher angles of attack, thus contributing to docile stall behavior.
Total production of the Stinson Model 108 was 5,259. Stinson delivered 5,133 aircraft and Piper delivered 126 aircraft.

Have about ten flights on my Stinson and it is a joy to fly. Take off run is about ten feet before it leaves the ground. Slow flight is the way to go with this airplane, it flies fine fast but slow looks so cool. My only complaint is the weak landing gear. The slightest hard landing and the aluminum landing gear bends. I had to install a spreader wire between the wheels to correct this. Turning with the rudder and adding opposite ailerons give you an awesome flat turn. Sometimes I fly the whole time with just the rudder. If you are looking for a second airplane to advance out of the trainer you just soloed on this would be a good choice.
