New low cost power system with great performance |
22" wingspan, 29" long, 155 sq. in. wing area, 16 oz. flying weight. All hollow molded foam construction, completely pre-painted and ready for assembly. The surface of the foam is toughened and the areas on the bottom of the jet that contact the ground are made of tough plastic. The ducted fan unit is included ( ALF5101). The flight performance of this jet is simply amazing; it can easily rise off grass, and with our recommended JetScreamer motor the speed is blistering. Vertical performance is unlimited (OK, it is limited, but only by the pilots ability to keep the airplane in sight). The delta wing is very gentle in stall and slows well for soft landings. Slow speed performance is excellent and hand launching is easily done. With the addition of the optional wheel kit ( ALF104W) take offs and landings from smooth surfaces are possible. Assembly is fairly easy; the wing is one piece and is glued to the fuselage after the aileron servo is installed. The ducting is smooth and elegant in design. The canopy is pre-done and is held in place by a magnet giving quick and easy access to the flight battery. Balance is critical on this airplane. The optimum balance point is molded into the bottom surface of the wing for easy reference. Waterslide decals for 3 versions of the A-4 are provided along with helpful instruction on their application. Total assembly time is about 6-8 hours. For 3-channels: Ailerons, Elevator and Throttle.

Love the plane, hate the decals. They are nearly impossible to put on being they disintegrate in your hands just getting them off the paper. Really poor execution on that. I am still looking for an appropriate set of quality decals that don't fall apart before they even touch the airplane. These should have been pre-applied without burdening the modeler with low quality decals. I did everything that I was told in the instructions and they are still terrible.

I was very happy when Alfa released the A4. The A-4 is what the Blue Angels used when I was a kid so I am partial to the A-4. I do not like the avionics hump on its back so I actually cut it off mine but some like its charm. This plane is on the smaller size and you must keep the aileron throws low especially if you plan on flying with higher wattage setups. I flew mine on a 5400 KV outrunner and on 3S was about 105 mph. The battery compartment is small so lipo selection is critical, too big a lipo and it will be quite nose heavy. Also use the 5 blade Alfa fan for best performance and I also recommend the use of a 1.8" diameter exit nozzle cone to optimize thrust and speed.

Purchased this little gem about a month ago. The packaging is pretty straight forward with foam wrapped around the major components, with some parts packaged in plastic bags. The plane is pre- painted which is a nice touch but the water slide decals can be challenging to put on. The instructions are also straight forward and one must study them well before assembly. This one is going to set on the shelf for a little while however until I purchase the jet-screamers motor for it. I have a hard time waiting for all the parts, and would rather be flying it. Once it is all together and in the air I will give an update.
I really like the Alfa models jets and have both the F-86 and the Mig-15. Quality is #1 with their airframes and looks are pretty scale like. These aircraft are for intermediate pilots and higher, and should not be attempted by a beginner until they have flowm and mastered low wing aileron aircraft.
