Beginner Airplane Grading System |
|
Grading:
1 to 10, 10 is best
|
Item 1. What is the MAIN reason that this outfit is good for a beginner?
Item 2. Instructions and/or plans: Grade 1 through 10
If there were NO plans nor instructions the grade would be 1. Then progress upward to a 10 for instructions and plans that are instantly understandable by a beginner and which outline the entire assembly and flying process.
Item 3. Assembly difficulty: Grade 1 through 10
A completely assembled and ready to fly airplane that was flyable immediately after its box was opened would be a 10. A balsawood airplane kit that required total construction and was easy to build but time consuming (because it was a kit) might be a 5. A balsawood airplane kit that required total construction but was difficult to build might be a 1.
Item 4. How easy is it to fly without help? Grade 1 through 10
10 would mean that the airplane is capable of free flight -- stable flight without the input from a pilot with a radio. 5 might mean that the airplane can be flown by a beginner but he may need an instructor pilot standing by. 1 would mean that the beginner would definitely need an instructor pilot to help with the first flights.
Item 5. How repairable is it in case of damage during first flights? Grade 1 through 10
This is in the estimate of the grading person. A typical balsawood kit that the modeler assembled and covered might be very easily repairable and might be a 10. A completely ready to fly airplane that was made of materials that shatter, or materials that do not glue back together easily, might be a 1.
Item 6. Overall recommendation: Grade 1 through 10
This is the grader's opinion.
Item 7. Assembly time: In HOURS
This includes all assembly and installation of motor, battery, radio equipment and complete preparation for flight. This is intended to be a realistic estimate, not a "hyped" estimate.
