I started in the hobby back in the 80s and I have flown many types of rc airplanes off and on over the years.
The P 51 is a nice airplane and east to put together out of the box. I was interested in the 2.4 ghz radio equipment. My first flight was textbook. The airplane tracked well on our grass field and took off without a hitch. The flight was fun with a couple of rolls. The landing went very well with room on our field.
The second flight was a beautiful takeoff. On my initial left turn, it sounded like the engine was making a very different noise than I ever heard before. The noise was followed by a loss of all controls and the airplane wound up in a tree. Once retreived, we charged the flight pack battery and put a load on it. The battery looked great then it quickly discharged indicating a bad battery pack. The battery was charged at home and tested once again, the battery pack was bad. Luckily, I only had a broken prop and the needle valve on the engine broke off but was still workable. New parts were sent to me at no charge.
When repairs were made and a new battery pack installed, it made a second trip to the field.all checks to the preflight were made with assistance from friends at the field. First take off and on my initial left turn, the airplane rolled left, I tried applying right aileron to level it out but the plane continued a lift bank. I rave the plane right rudder and I stalled it so it crashed. We checked the aileron servos and they seemed fine. We discovered the Y harness was bad going to the left aileron. This time we have a lot of damage.
I bought a heavy duty Y harness, a new wing joiner rod and I have to remove covering to replace or repair.

I trained on this plane with an instructor. I'd flown a Super Cub and Parkzone T-28 for several months first. The Hangar 9 P-51 MKII PTS was my first experience with a nitro bird. My instructor had me remove the droops right away, but leave the other PTS features intact (needle valve limiters and counter-weight on the engine). It flies GREAT! The only problem I had was landing as it comes in fast and requires a lot of runway. I've since added the servos for the flaps and consequently slowed the landing speed very nicely. It floats in beautifully now. The Evolution .46 is EXTREMELY reliable and started out of the box on the first flip. I've run about 5 gallons of fuel through it over the last 18 months and have had no proJblems whatsoever. The Ultracote trim does not adhere well. Early on I tried ironing it and using small amount of CA under edges. Nope. I've flown the invasions stripes off of it. Wouldn't recommend it as a first plane for training, but for a second plane - it's awesome. This RTF has to be one of the BEST deals around too - in rough prices: engine $90, 4 servos $100, DX6 Tx $150, Spectrum Rx $50, flight battery $20, prop $5 - about $415 total. Retail price $399 - they're GIVING you the plane for nothing! Beat that deal.
